IDG Awarded $5M Contract to Help Enhance Environmental Adaption and Learning in Southern Africa

International Development Group, LLC (IDG) will support the USAID/Southern Africa Regional Environment, Education, and Democracy (REED) office to be more efficient, effective, and transparent in achieving program results using evidence, performance management techniques, communication, and collaborating learning and adapting (CLA) practices.

IDG is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a five-million-dollar contract for the USAID Regional Environment Adapting and Learning (REAL) Activity in Southern Africa under the OASIS Small Business Contract Mechanism. This project aims to establish a robust learning support system to enhance the REED office’s effectiveness. IDG will support the USAID program cycle through evidence-based design, ongoing tracking, and adaptive program management, ensuring continuous improvement. The REAL Activity will also strengthen the REED office’s partnerships with regional, national, and local stakeholders, enabling the mission to leverage diverse perspectives and resources. This approach will foster strategic alignment, adaptive learning, and drive successful outcomes across Southern Africa.

Drawing on in-depth technical and regional expertise as seen in our previously implemented activities, such as the USAID South Africa Local Emissions Development Embedded Staff Activity, IDG will leverage this in its collaboration with the Environment and Energy team in the REED Office. We will provide technical assistance in the following areas under REAL:

  • Program and activity design in line with the Regional and Country Development Cooperation Strategies in place by the mission.
  • Support and deepen the use of CLA practices across the USAID program cycle to enhance learning and improve effectiveness.
  • Improve coordination, collaboration between USAID/Southern Africa REED staff with regional and national government partners, USAID Missions in the region, implementing partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Robust support with the implementation of monitoring, evaluation, research and learning (MERL) activities.
  • Develop and implement communications practices to ensure that the REED office is well connected with USAID bilateral missions, limited and non-presence countries and inter-agency partners.

DNA Economics, an economic consultancy firm based in Pretoria, South Africa, is a subcontractor to IDG for this project and will collaborate in providing technical support to USAID. IDG looks forward to working with the USAID/Southern Africa Regional Mission on this initiative.
