IDG continues support to the development of Armenia’s economy through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Armenia Business Enabling Environment Project (ABEE). ABEE and Enterprise Armenia organized the Investor Day event, which was held on the second day of the DigiTec EXPO in Yerevan on March 11.
The main goal of the event was to discuss the systemic issues identified by information technology (IT) companies within the framework of the aftercare services of Enterprise Armenia. The objective was to encourage dialogue between the government authorities, industry experts, and the business community to outline possible solutions and develop a roadmap for future actions.
The event included three-panel discussions between the Government of Armenia and the private sector. The discussions addressed the sector’s most pressing issues, such as the shortage of skilled specialists, the unsatisfactory quality of education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics specializations in Armenia’s higher education institutions, and the lack of general data protection regulations in Armenia.
“I am happy that with USAID’s support, the Government of Armenia and the industry participated in a constructive dialog addressing industry issues and crafting needed solutions. The United States government stands ready to continue supporting Armenia’s efforts to attract foreign direct investment,” said Ambassador Kristina Kvien.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Minister of the High-Tech Industry, Ambassador to the Armenia Kristina Kvien, USAID/Armenia Deputy Mission Director Rebecca White and 250 representatives from the government and IT companies participated in the event.
USAID Armenia Business Enabling Environment activity supports the government and the private sector through public-private dialogue to improve the policies, laws, and regulations necessary to foster investment, trade, and competitiveness. Enterprise Armenia is Armenia’s national investment promotion authority to promote and facilitate foreign and domestic investments, attract new foreign direct investments, and provide aftercare services to foreign investors in Armenia.
